To the end of the exhibition Below, Silja Lenz invites you to a lecture that continues the poetic and mythical moment of her work. She will read the story “Die, die nie ganz auftaucht” (the one who never fully emerges), a literary dive into the deep sea, to a creature between myth and memory.

A soft body, fired in clay. Fragmentary, torn from movement, broken into pieces. What otherwise eludes the gaze now lies open before us – rigid, tangible, and yet foreign. From the depths, people tell stories: of beings that no one has fully seen, of tentacles that embrace ships. Between fear and fascination, an image emerges that says more about us than about what lives down there.

The work probes this boundary between myth and material, between touch and withdrawal, and asks: What traces do we leave in spaces that are not meant for us?

The exhibition ends on August 1, 2025, at 7 PM with our SUMMER FESTIVAL.

The first children’s opening with children from JUKUS (Stuttgart Youth Art School). Two groups of six children each came and talked to Silja Lenz after viewing the exhibition. A week later, Silja Lenz visited the youth art school to work with the children using clay.

Opening of the exhibition Sound & Color
with Liss/Martin (Heike Liss, Jessica Martin)
on Friday, May 23, 2025 at 7:30 pm.

The project Sound & Color by the Californian artist duo reflects the collective need to be in touch with nature in a participatory action. Liss/Martin issued an open call to participate in a simple and powerful gesture of climate activism with the following question:

Find a moment with nature in your everyday life, in your city, in your home or on the road, film this moment with your cell phone and then share it with us.
Two video works were created of the entries submitted, which can be seen now in the exhibition space.

Accompanying the exhibition, the artist Heike Liss offers a sound walk in Stuttgart-West on the day of the closing event. We will meet in the art space kunst [ ] klima Stuttgart at 5 pm.

Time and Space
by Damaris Wurster and Thiele-Zoll (Ursula and Dietmar Thiele-Zoll)

This exhibition brings together two generations who both deal with the topics of space and time. Both have completely different approaches. In Damaris Wurster’s work, unpredictable processes play a role in the creation of images. In Thiele-Zoll’s work, all the details are very meticulously formulated before the painting process begins. The starting point for Damaris Wurster’s works is existing material such as photos or films, which are processed in elaborate decomposition processes. Thiele-Zoll’s works are driven by the immensity of space and time. 

On Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at 6 pm we are looking forward to the lecture 
Time, Space, Light by Joachim Sommer (Historian of science).

This will take place at the Institute Dr. Flad, on the other side of the art space.
We will meet in the art space at 5.30 p.m. and go together to the Institute.

The exhibition ends on April 25, 2025 from 7 p.m.

On September 30, 2026 on 6 pm is an artist talk with Barbara Karsch-Chaieb and Leonie Lass.

INFINITY KISS – It always lasts forever and then it’s over describes a tension between the promise of permanence and durability and, at the same time, the impossibility of achieving it. What appears to be “forever” is always bound to material, social, or personal conditions.
Using marble as its medium and taking as its starting point a former marble sawmill—whose history can now only be grasped through traces and the stories of its descendants—the exhibition explores this ambivalence and examines the conditions under which materiality acquires meaning.
The exhibiton is on view until October 17, 2026 and ends with a closing reception on 6 pm.

Circuit of Birch
opening of the exhibition on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at 6 pm, the first day of spring.
We are a part of the Lange Nacht der Museen (Long night of museums) Stuttgart.
The exhibition is on view til April 11, 2026.

The Birch Collective, formed specifically for this exhibition, conceives of itself as a mycelial entity whose mode of working interlaces diverse artistic positions and practices into a collective organism, activated within the exhibition space.

Employing interdisciplinary artistic approaches, the participating artists – Reinhard Krehl, Karl Michael Lange, Maria Grazia Sacchitelli, Mirja Wellmann, and Gabrielle Zimmermann – engage with the birch (Betula pendula). The works span drawing, objects, and sculpture, as well as video, sound, and food-based practices.

Central to the exhibition is the notion of cyclical processes, which connects the individual positions through shared materials, transferred methodologies, and intersecting conceptual frameworks. Extending beyond the motif of the birch, the works explore the complexity and interconnectedness of natural systems, alongside humanity’s enduring attempt to comprehend and articulate this order through artistic, scientific, mythological, and symbolic modes of knowledge.

Programm on the Long Nights of Museum:
On 7 p.m. and on 9:30 p.m. Artist Talk with the Birch Collective.
On 9 p.m. you can hear the Sound performance “Living Streams” (approx. 15–20 min.).
Living organisms are interconnected, processing and sending different signals. They form a world of networks that we can only imagine. In a performance, students from the FKN Lab for Art and Sustainability at the Free Art Academy Nürtingen will experimentally reveal this world.

We deliberately chose not to print invitation cards for this exhibition, but instead are offering a very special limited edition of handmade paper:

Opening on Friday, November 14, 2025, at 7 p.m. with a performance.

For the opening of the exhibition A Story of Eternity, Geneva-based artist Séverin Guelpa will present a spectacular material performance. Three hundred kilograms of earth, collected from various symbolic locations in Stuttgart, will be used to create a mold for a copper casting, for which he will use recycled metal from the city’s waste facilities.

Guelpa, who works extensively in deserts and regions weakened by mining and deals with both raw materials and explosives, draws inspiration for this new work, created especially for the opening, from the local context of Stuttgart.

On Friday, December 5, 2025, the second phase of the project will take place as part of the closing event, along with an artist talk with Séverin Guelpa and Julia Wirth.

The first quarter of the 21st century is almost over.
Crises, wars, and climate collapse are surrounding us. And make us feeling powerless.
How do we see our time and our future?
Marie Salcedo Horn is 30 years old and is wondering how people who are
10, 20, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, or 90 years old think about time and our future. Stones provide a point of reference for this. They were here long before us and will survive us who are alive today.

Our first meeting will be in the Travertinpark Stuttgart on Sunday, September 21, on 2 p.m.
Surrounded by rocks and their temporality, people of all ages can share their perspectives on time and the future and try to breathe with the stones. Together, we will experience various physical and listening exercises. Stones are representing permanence, immovability, and stillness, but they also move and change, just in a different temporality than we humans.
Can they give us stability?

Interview Julia Wirth with Marie Salcedo Horn on FULLBEANSRADIO

In her performances and multimedia installations, Marie Salcedo Horn (*1995) explores the relationship between humans and nature. The possibility of touching her works plays a central role in this. What do humans need in order to connect with the more-than-human world? She studied fine arts in Buenos Aires and Berlin and graduated in 2023 as a master student at the Berlin University of the Arts. She is a recipient of the Eberhard Roters Scholarship for Young Art and the Bernhard Heiliger Prize for Sculpture. 

Impressions of the exhibition old stone hold my soul of Marie Salcedo Horn:

On September 21, 2025, more than 15 people between the ages of 7 and 88 were at Travertinpark in Stuttgart/Bad Cannstatt with the artist Marie Salcedo Horn. We explored the topic of temporality in the stones of the former quarry.
At the opening on Friday, October 10, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. we will see and hear what happened with the frottages created on site, the stones, and the numerous thoughts and words of the participants.

Water is not only one of the most important resources and a prerequisite for all life, it is also a connecting element. Wet Relations (concept and design by Beatrice Bucher and Sonja Schwarz) establishes an intimate and direct connection between us and the Neckar river with its interactive installation and reports on different relationships between human.

The exhibition „Dust, and to dust you will return“ challenges the anthropocentric perspective that places humans above other beings in the world. A rotating spine, seemingly floating within the project space, offers only a fleeting reminder of the vitality of an animal. Additional objects complement the kinetic installation.

The artist invites to a conversation on Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 2 to 4 pm.
