Earth Day 2025
For the second time, the AKA Earth Day took place at the ABK Stuttgart on April 22, 2025. On this occasion, students and faculty transformed the Weißenhof campus into a center for environmental awareness and sustainability, inspired by the global „Earth Day.“ The program included a wide range of student initiatives aimed at strengthening environmental consciousness at ABK.
A special innovation this year was the AKA Earth Day Prize, donated by the Friends of the Academy Stuttgart Association, which was awarded in the afternoon before the AKA Earth Day Tree in front of New Building 1 to three outstanding student initiatives. The jury consisted of Anja Necker, the state’s climate protection manager, Barbara Karsch-Chaïeb from the project space kunst [ ] klima, and OA Krimmel from the Friends of the Academy Stuttgart Association. The prize, worth 1,000 euros, was equally awarded to Jakob Mayer and Anne Kraft for the project „Springbrunnen“, to Meike Schmitz for „Berta, Family & Friends“, and to Florence Nitschmann for „One has to die: circular weaving Paulus“.

The „AKA Earth Day“ was organized by the Climate and Energy Circle of ABK Stuttgart (abk_eco) under the leadership of Prof. Dr. h.c. Patrick Thomas, Communication Design, and Prof. Veronika Aumann, Textile Design.
„Earth Day“ has been celebrated annually on April 22 since 1970 to raise awareness for environmental protection. Over the years, this day has evolved into a global movement in which individuals and organizations advocate for environmental awareness, political change and sustainable practices.

Three years ago, Barbara Karsch-Chaïeb turned a part of her studio into the exhibition space “
kunst [ ] klima”. She does not want to prescribe solutions to climate change, but rather give impulses.
